SLR Camera

For my film poster, we used a digital camera take the pictures we each used for our poster. the images were ordinary however for the magazine covers we are going to use the SLR digital camera to take the images of the main character. This would be of good effect to our magazine covers as the pictures taken by the SLR will be of much better quality compared to an ordinary digital camera, because its a very professional camera used by every if not most Professional photographers. Digital SLRs come in different name brands such as Sony, Nikon, Canon and other companies that specialised in media products. In our case Canon E0S 1000D.
With a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor and technology inherited from Canon’s professional models, the EOS 1000D offers EOS imaging power in an affordable, easy-to-use package. this camera features:

  • 10.1 MP CMOS sensor

  • Up to 3fps

  • 7-point wide-area AF

  • Self-Cleaning Image Sensor

  • 2.5” LCD with Live View mode

  • DIGIC III processor

  • SD/SDHC card slot

  • Picture Styles processing

  • Compact and lightweight

  • Compatible with EF/EF-S lenses and EX Speedlites

    starting my film poster

in today's lesson, I spent most of the lesson browsing for background images I would like to use for my film poster: I found some and I'm going to attempt to use all of them in order to have more options to choose from.

    Film Poster Analysis-Kill Shot

This is the film poster for 'Killshot'. This film is a 2008 Crime thriller starring Diane Lane and Mickey Rourke and  directed by John Madden. The main images are of a male and female character with a gun between them. the woman looks like she's in fear while the man looks like a detective and this, and the combination of the title 'killshot' allows the audience to identify the genre of the film. In the background is a shot low angle shot of the main character running holding a gun with an explosion behind him. This helps to emphasise on the genre of the film and that he's a main character in the film as there is focus on him. the font used is fairly simple to read as it's in red, black and white; red possibly signifying blood shed and it also compliments the explosion and effect in the background. The names of the most important characters are places at the top of the poster. this is easy for te audience to read, and the font and the colour of te actors names follow the same style in the film title. We are also told it is 'an unrelently thriller' by a magazine review which promises a potential of the audience feeling the same way after viewing the film. This poster only has a few conventions of a film poster as it is missing billing cards at the bottom of the poster; there is no tagline or even a release date and it doesn't include a website address but its still quite an effective film poster.

As an alternative storyboard,we used jelly babies to show our different shots.

    magazine ideas

Along with our teaser trailer. My group will also be producing a magazine front cover and a poster. In order to do this, we will analyze various magazine covers and posters to see what techniques they use. We would like our magazine to imitate something like 'Empire', as that is a very popular and successful film magazine. Below are two examples of 'Empire' issues.

    Empire Magazine: #229 (July 2008)
    Empire Magazine: #231 (September 2008)

    Thinking of a film title

In todays lesson, my group and I are finding it so hard to think of a name for out film; we keep coming up with ideas but we can't seem to come to terms with them. Members of my group are not taking my ideas seriously because they think am a joke. I came up with the idea of calling out film 'bad popo' or 'Self Made Popo' and even 'the forgotten popo'- 'popo' is a slang word for police or detective while 'self made' is just basiclly someone who stands on his/her own. I thought these titles would be good as they are relevant to our story but my group thinks otherwise. At the moment our initial idea is 'Miss'in Murderer'. I don't know why but ok.

    Location Scouting

For our trailer, as a group we have had to do location scouting. We decided on two main locations. The first one is Wapping, in West London. We have chosen this location as there are cobbled streets in the area. Using cobbled streets will authenticate and add a sense of realism to our trailer. Cobbled streets are part of the era of the 1960's. Therefore they are a good asset to have in the trailer. The second location is Hampton Court and Hampton Court Maze. We have decided to use the maze as the setting for the murders. It creates a sense of mystery to the murders and the murderer.

    Props

As filming will commence very soon, I have made a mood board of  useful props. My group have been inspired by the 1960's in reference to detectives. The objects above, will preferably be used in our trailer. The props are typical conventions of 1960's detectives. Using them will make it clear to our audience the era our film is set, as well as the fact that our main character is a detective

    Mood Board 2

    Mood Board 1

Our group have created a mood board for inspiration. It will help us to generate ideas for our own trailer. We have used images that relate to the genre we are planning to do. A variety of the images are stereotypical conventions that a crime/detective film has.

    Film Pitch: 1st idea

Detective L.Garcia is a young man in his early 20's. He was dropped from the force due to his ruthless methods, although his unconventiallity is what gets the job done. The maze murderer is giving the police force a whole lot of trouble. His identity is unknown as he wears a white mask which he leaves at the scene of the crime. His signature is to leave the rope he strangles his victims with, next to the body.

Detective Garcia decidedes to take it upon himself to capture the killer. He brings in his trusty but dopey assistant Taylor James to help. Its a race to find the maze killer before he gets #Victim number 6. Will his assistants mishaps, his love for women or his turbulent personal life lead him to the trouble he trys to avoid .

    Senna

'Senna' is an auto biography documentary thriller film about a successful Formula 1 driver who had ups and downs in  his risky driving career. This film would particularly be aimed at older age skewed to men; as the music  is used is classic, the black and white theme used and the unseen footage all bring the sense of realism to the documentary and also helps to appeal to the target audience.

    Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Transformers is a Scifi Thriller film that's aimed at a teenage upto 30s skewed to boys. The special effect of the machines helps to reach out to thier target audience. The low angle shot that was used on the transformer in the trailer helps lay emphasis on the power of it.

    Last year's experience

Last year I learnt that its good to do more work and research independently as well as working in a group because I relied a little bit too much on the members of My group to do the research and the presentations as they promised they would but they failed to deliver at times which slowed us down; so I will work more independently this year even when set a group task. I also didn't work hard enough last year in terms of the coursework-posting on my blog at least twice a week. I was well behind last year as I didnt post often, infact I didnt post once in a period of 3 weeks. I hope I can have time to improve that this year and post at least twice a week in order to get a better coursework grade this year.
I got a new group this year and I think we'll all bring different strengths to the group from our past experiences; Malika is good with music and editing because her group last year left most of the work to her to do herself as they were lazy so she's good with the equipment-that benefits us as a group as we can use her skills, add it to mine and hopefully get a very good production.

    Teaser Trailer Research

The film 'Age of  Heroes' is about the World War 2 starring Sean Bean and Danny Dyer who play the role of two World war II heroes as the battle against the Nazi opposition. The target audience of this film would be 15plus teanagers up to the middle 50s which would be skewed to men there are mostly features in the trailer that appeal to the target audience: Masculine voiceover, fastpaced action sequences-several shots of explosions and shootings and the language all make the film seem skewed to men and successfully appeal to their target audience.
